Lewis Carroll’s novel Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland is a special edition geared towards female teens and young women rediscovering classic works. This design embodies a modern Alice finding her identity and place in a world of rules, authority, and gender privilege, a message that still holds today. The illustrations are whimsical, highly decorative, colourful, and have a gritty touch. They embrace a bold hand-drawn look that is fearless and experimental, showing young women how to take up space and be seen. The front cover acts as a title poster, with an adventurous sans serif bold typesetting, playing with the baseline to show an adventure ahead. The play in typography continues throughout the book creating a climate for the story to unfold. This typesetting is inspired by Saul Bass’ titles designs.
